What is an Echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram (or echo) is a safe, non-invasive ultrasound scan of the heart. It uses sound waves to create live images of your heart’s structure and function. This test allows your cardiologist to assess how your heart is beating, how well it's pumping blood, and whether there are any structural abnormalities.

• Shortness of breath

Do You Need a Referral?

Yes, a referral from your GP or specialist is required to access a bulk-billed echocardiogram. If you're experiencing symptoms like breathlessness, fatigue, or chest discomfort, or your doctor wants to investigate further, ask them for a referral to Heart Wellness Centre. If you have a referral addressed to another provider, you can also use that referral.
